About the Content
Helmut Wieteck combines biographical texts and anecdotes from the life of the "chess eccentric" Mieses with 50 carefully selected and annotated attack games. The book also contains drawings and diagrams and honors Mieses' characteristic attacking style, which made him one of the most entertaining players of his era.
The Story Behind the Title
The title "Meister Mieses" refers to a famous anecdote: When Mieses was staying in England and someone pronounced his name in English ("Mister Meises"), he corrected with a smile: "Excuse me, but I am not Mister Meises, but Master Mieses." This story was first published in 1932 in "Schachwart" and has since become one of the best-known Mieses anecdotes.
